Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Wednesday registered a case against Sunil Shelke , the sitting Maval MLA and NCP candidate for forthcoming polls, on the charge of violating the model code of conduct during his election rally held between Shirgaon and Somatane on Tuesday. The police registered the case against Shelke and the organiser of the rally under section 223 (disobedience of orders issued by a public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Deepak Rakshe, an official from the Election Commission, lodged the complaint with the Shirgaon police on Wednesday.

Senior inspector Tejaswini Kadam of the Shirgaon police told TOI that Shelke's supporter organised the election campaign rally at Adhale and Chandkhed villages on Tuesday night. He obtained the required permissions to organise the rally. "The rally, however, continued past the 10pm deadline from Shirgaon and Somatane.

This is a violation of rules and conditions laid down by the EC," Kadam said. The officer said the police registered a case against the person who obtained permission for the rally, as well as the candidate, as he was present at the campaign..
