ORANGEBURG — Carolyn Gillard Gaffney, 73, passed Tuesday night, October 15, 2024, at MUSC Orangeburg Hospital in Orangeburg, SC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.

Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Orangeburg, SC. Public viewing will be held between the hours of 12:00 noon-4:00 p.

will conduct the Ivy Beyond The Wall Ceremony at 6:00 p.m. on October 23 at Mt.

Pisgah Baptist Church, which is open to the public. Carolyn was born and raised in Sumter, SC, and was the daughter of late Collins Eddie and Mary (Hastie) Gillard. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968.

After high school, Mrs. Gaffney graduated from South Carolina State College in 1972, with a bachelor of science in accounting and then graduated with a master of accountancy from the University of South Carolina in 1974. She earned her CPA license in accountancy in 1983.

For over 33 years, Mrs. Gaffney was an associate professor of accounting and an administrator in the School of Business at South Carolina State. She was a faithful member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church over 35 years, serving in Ward III, as a member and then president of the Mass Choir, president of the Young Women's Axillary, and various other capacities.

She was a proud Golden Soror and 1968 initiate of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is survived by her husband, of 42 years, Vandy T. Gaffney Sr; her son, Vandy T.

Gaffney II, M.D., and her daughter, Vanna Gaffney; her sisters, Collette Andrews and Louise Dukes; two grandchildren, Harper Carolyn and Giselle Elizabeth; brother-in-law, Bruce (Denise) Gaffney Sr.

; sister-in-law, Sandra Franklin; many cousins and many close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a memorial scholarship in Carolyn's honor with the South Carolina State University Foundation, 300 College Street, Orangeburg, SC, 29117. Friends are invited to extend condolences by visiting the residence at 1831 Old Riley Street, Orangeburg SC.
