Caroline Wozniacki has announced that she is expecting her third child with her husband, former NBA star David Lee. The former world No. 1 had two kids after retiring from professional tennis in 2020, then decided to return to the sport in 2023.

Wozniacki has not played a match since last year’s US Open and raised eyebrows when she pulled out of the Australian Open in January. But the Danish tennis star has now shared her exciting baby news in an adorable post on social media, as she posed alongside Lee and their two children, James and Olivia. It is not known whether Wozniacki intends to return to professional tennis again after giving birth.

The 34-year-old referenced her husband’s sporting career as she announced the news on Instagram . “Officially switching to zone defense!” Wozniacki wrote. “Our family couldn’t be more excited to welcome baby #3 soon!” Wozniacki’s colleagues and rivals flooded the comments with well-wishes.

“No wayyyyyyy unstoppable. Big congrats,” fellow former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova replied.

Genie Bouchard added: “Congrats!!!!! Can’t wait to see another beautiful baby made by you guys.” A post shared by Caroline Wozniacki (@carowozniacki) Angelique Kerber and British stars Johanna Konta , Heather Watson, and Naomi Broady were among the others congratulating Wozniacki and her family on the news. Wozniacki and Lee, a two-time NBA All-Star who played for the likes of the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, welcomed their first child in June 2021, a daughter named Olivia.

Their second child, James, was born 16 months later. Less than a year after she gave birth to James, the 2018 Australian Open champion announced her decision to leave retirement and return to the pro tour in an essay for Vogue. “I still have goals I want to accomplish.

I want to show my kids that you can pursue your dreams no matter your age or role,” she wrote. “How long will I be able to play at my highest level - a year, two years, three years? I don’t know. “But I know that five years from now, when the kids are in school, it will be too late.

I’m not going to make any bold predictions - but if I didn’t believe in myself, I wouldn’t be doing this: I’m too competitive to just show up and not feel like I’m going to be one of the best players out there.” Wozniacki returned during the North American hard-court swing in 2023 and stormed into the second week of the US Open, losing to eventual champion Coco Gauff . She did not play again until 2024 and enjoyed the best run of her comeback in Indian Wells, reaching the quarter-final.

The current world No. 133 has not competed since reaching the fourth round of the US Open again last September. Wozniacki has not addressed whether she will attempt to come back following the birth of her third child or if she will re-enter retirement.
