Carol B. Griffin OBITUARY With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Carol (Biggerstaff) Griffin, 79, of West Suffield, Connecticut on October 12, 2024. Born on September 14, 1945 in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late John W.
Biggerstaff and Marion (Harlow) Biggerstaff, she grew up on her family farm on Hill Street in Suffield. She loved all animals and enjoyed gardening. She was an active member and leader of the 4-H and it was at the Hartford County 4-H Fair in 1956 that she met B.
Harrison Griffin who would later become her best friend and husband for 54 years. They went on to get married and have three children, Jonathan, Sheri and Sarah-Jean. They worked tirelessly on their sheep and dairy farm at the Griffin family homestead, Beaver Brook Farm in West Suffield and East Granby.
A graduate of Suffield High School, Carol went on to complete her Bachelors and Masters degrees in education at the University of Connecticut. After graduating, she went on to teach English at Windsor Locks Middle School before staying home to raise their three children. Carol then went on to be a reading tutor for 20 years at Bridge Street and Spaulding Elementary Schools in Suffield.
Carol was a teacher to all but especially to her children and grandchildren. “Grammie” was always their biggest fan with patience beyond measure with kids and grownups alike. Her smile and pleasant demeanor were infectious to all.
Carol enjoyed musicals and was a talented artist and an avid reader. It brought her so much joy to see the next generation build Oxen Hill Farm. She loved her church family at Copper Hill United Methodist Church in East Granby.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Harrison, her son, Jonathan Griffin (Lisa), her daughter, Sheri Mandirola (Paul) and her daughter, Sarah-Jean Oliver; her grandchildren Griffin, Connor, and Parker Mandirola, Anna and Ian Griffin and Jake and Luke Oliver. She is also survived by her brother John E. Biggerstaff (Louise) and her sister Janice Gowdy (Willard) along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by their infant son Andrew B. Griffin and her sister, Betty Silkey. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, October 20th from 3:00-7:00 p.
m. at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N.
(Rt 159) in Suffield, CT. All are welcome to attend a celebration of life on Monday, October 21, 11:00 a.m.
