Inspirational Sharks captain Cameron McInnes has extended his contract until the end of 2026. or signup to continue reading McInnes' new one-year deal comes after a season in which he guided Cronulla to a preliminary final and earned a State of Origin debut for NSW. The announcement came a few days after McInnes and teammates visited hospitals, and disability and aged care centres on Friday to spread Christmas cheer.

The players spread out, covering Sutherland Hospital, Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, Pathways Cronulla Pines, and Civic Disability to bring smiles, gifts, and festive spirit to those who need it most. McInnes, 30, has played 204 NRL matches over the course of a decade. He moved to the Sharks from the Dragons ahead of the 2022 season, at the same time as coach Craig Fitzgibbon joined the club.

"It's a really exciting and proud moment to re-sign," McInnes said. "I was lucky enough to sign here for four years in 2021 and to be able to extend here is all I wanted to do. I'm really glad the club are happy to have me.

"The club's in such a secure place. It's a high-performing environment and that's what I want to be a part of. "I've got no doubt under Fitzy, the coaches and the systems in place here - I can't see anything other than striving for the best each year.

"I'm going into my 11th year in the NRL, but I still have so many goals. I'm still trying to get better and get to the potential that I feel I have." Sharks General Manager Football Darren Mooney described McInnes as a tremendous player who refuses to let his standards slip.

"Cam is the ultimate professional who elevates the performance of everyone around him through his actions and words," Mooney said. "His experience is invaluable and he never takes a backward step. We're pleased to have someone of his calibre on and off the field re-commit to the club.

" Meanwhile, 11 of the greatest players to represent the Sharks will be welcomed into the club's newly established Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Sharks Stadium on February 18. The five Sharks Immortals - living legends Gavin Miller, Andrew Ettingshausen and Tommy Bishop, as well as the late Steve Rogers and Greg Pierce - will earn entry to the Hall of Fame alongside six other Cronulla champions to be revealed during a prestigious black-tie dinner. The six members of the Hall of Fame yet to be named have been selected by a committee, led by club historian Ashley Taylor and featuring Miller, Ettingshausen, Sharks CEO Dino Mezzatesta, chairman Steve Mace and journalists Phil Rothfield and David Riccio.

The committee "followed strict criteria to decide upon the inaugural honourees". St George and Sutherland Shire Leader reporter covering politics, urban affairs, council, development and general community news.Email: mtrembath@theleader.
