Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has confirmed that he still wants to leave the club after they rejected multiple bids for him this summer. Kelleher, 25, has played second fiddle to Alisson Becker over the past few seasons, racking up 26 appearances in all competitions last term as the Brazilian No.1 struggled with injury.

But when long-time manager Jurgen Klopp departed Anfield in May, Kelleher was keen to follow. The Irish shot-stopper wants to play week in, week out and was linked with the likes of Brighton , Wolves and Nottingham Forest before the transfer window shut on August 30. His exit chances increased at one stage, as Liverpool began negotiations to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for £25million.

But new Liverpool boss Arne Slot agreed for Mamardashvili to be loaned back to Valencia for the remainder of this season, resulting in the Reds keeping hold of Kelleher. The 25-year-old, who started the Republic of Ireland's 2-0 defeat to England on Saturday, has now addressed his uncertain future, revealing that he remains keen to leave Merseyside. "I made it clear in the last few years, I want to go be a No.

1 and play week in, week out," Kelleher told reporters. "The club made the decision to get another goalkeeper. From the outside looking in, it looks like they have made a decision to go in another direction.

"My ambition has always been clear the last few seasons that I want to be a No.1, playing week in, week out. Sometimes from the outside looking in, it looks like it is 100 per cent my decision but at times, it is not always in my hands.

" Liverpool's No.2 is under contract until 2026, meaning that next summer will likely be the Reds' last chance to get a sizeable fee for him. Forest reportedly submitted a bid late last month but it was below Liverpool's valuation.

It's not only the player. If you work at a club like Liverpool, you need competition and you need a lot of good players.

"Like I said, Mamardashvili is someone for the long-term future of the club and I'm really, really happy with the goalkeepers we have at the moment." Kelleher is likely to make his first appearance of the season when Liverpool host West Ham in the Carabao Cup on September 25.
