The Vancouver Canucks announced two roster moves on Sunday ahead of their matchup with the Nashville Predators. The team placed defenceman Derek Forbort on IR while also calling up defenceman Elias Pettersson from the Abbotsford Canucks. This is the first call-up for Pettersson, who the organization drafted in the third round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Derek Forbort has been placed on Injured Reserve and D Elias Pettersson has been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL). — Vancouver Canucks (@Canucks) Forbort's last game was on November 2 against the San Jose Sharks. Two days later, in practice, he suffered a lower-body injury and has been out of the lineup since.
No official timetable has been set for Forbort's return. As for Pettersson, according to Head Coach Rick Tocchet, he was called up as a precautionary measure. Both Forbort and Vincent Desharnais are injured, meaning the Canucks only had six healthy defensemen on the roster.
In 15 games at the AHL level this season, Pettersson has four assists and has been used on the penalty kill..
