HARARE – A Canadian diplomat walked into Marlborough Police Station in Harare on December 11 with an unusual complaint: a break in at her residence allegedly authorised by Canada’s ambassador to Zimbabwe – Adler Aristilde. Jennifer Lee Boudreau told police that she arrived at her residence on Quorn Avenue in Mt Pleasant at about 4PM on December 6 and realised something was not right upon noticing that her wardrobe door was open. She summoned her security guard Last Murapa who initially said he knew nothing, but then changed his story.

Murapa, according to police, told Boudreau that earlier that day at about 10.30AM while she was at work, the embassy’s regional security manager Franis Limbikani arrived at the property with a duplicate key and used it to gain access into her apartment. Limbikani’s target, Boudreau narrated, was the hard drive of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) stored inside the wardrobe.

After retrieving the hard drive, Limbikani allegedly replaced it with a blank hard drive. He left after ordering Murapa not to enter his name in the visitor log book, and the security guard was not to tell anyone about the visit. Boudreau told police that on December 7, she went to Aristilde to report the unusual events but much to her shock the ambassador not only knew of the unlawful entry but he had directed it.

The ambassador, Boudreau narrated, had instructed Jennifer Jacob, the embassy’s property officer, to take a duplicate key and retrieve the CCTV hard drive at her apartment. Jacob, in turn, directed Limbikani to execute the task. Boudreau said she reported the developments to the foreign office back in Canada and they acknowledged receipt of the report while promising to initiate an investigation.

“Noting a delay in the investigation of the matter by the Canadian headquarters, on December 11, 2024, at around 10.30AM complainant made a report at ZRP Marlborough,” an internal police memo seen by ZimLive states, adding that “investigations are in progress.” The incident is being investigated as a case of “unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances.
