The family-friendly craze locks teams of between two and five in a room and challenges them to crack a series of codes, puzzles, riddles and tests to secure their exit within 60 minutes. Over the past five years Spalding ’s Rush Hour Escape Rooms have proven a popular venue with competitors travelling from as far as the USA and Sweden - as well as from all over the UK to compete. The venue is currently up for sale , with owner Brett Harman hoping someone with a ‘similar enthusiasm’ would want to take the rooms on.
But inside it is very much business as usual...

” The Red Lion Street venue offers three very different zones for hopeful escapologists to explore. Lost and Found is a bric-a-brac-themed room with old artefacts forming vital clues or intriguing curveballs, while Game Over offers a neon-lit paradise for fans of video games, board games and TV quiz shows, complete with a giant Nokia mobile phone. The third room is Alice in Wonderland, a dual-room challenge based on the famous story which sees competitors starting off shrunken in a of zone of large items before joining the Mad Hatter’s tea party, where more mayhem ensues.
With speed the name of the game, each area’s fastest times of the month and room records are displayed in the entrance lobby. “You’ve got to cope well under pressure,” said Brett, who designs the rooms and puzzles, and who has decided to put his labour of love on the market due do time demands from his other work as a voiceover artist and TikTok movie broadcaster. “If a team of escape room experts get out quickly then it doesn’t bother me, I think well done to them.
