A father campaigning for equal parenting rights aims to get as many signatures on a T-shirt to hand into parliament. Long Sutton’s Simon Cobb set up PAPA - People Against Parental Alienation to provide support to couples after they split with fair access to parenting. Sir John Hayes, MP for South Holland and The Deepings, was the first to sign the T-shirt following a meeting to discuss how to make equal parenting more viable.

Mr Cobb said: “My plan for this campaign is to meet with as many legislators, policymakers and members of parliament as possible to discuss how we can make changes so that both parents are supported when separated. “As it stands the system only supports one parent which often creates a lot of conflict and a lot of incentive to alienate the other parent. “I am asking every person I meet to sign the T-shirt in support of the presumption of equal parenting and I will be hand-delivering it to the Houses of Parliament in the PAPA van once it is full of signatures.

” Mr Cobb started a website offering a free service to parents who can access helpful resources if facing a similar situation. He also uses a promotional car to bring awareness to other parents who may have to fight to see their children for 50/50 custody. Mr Cobb has experienced fighting for equal access for his son after splitting with his partner which took several months to resolve.

PAPA is an inclusive campaign to create equality for all parents when a family splits and to improve fairness rather than custody being weighed heavily in favour of the mother.
