Calls Mount For the Removal of a Newly Hired NFL Offensive Coordinator

Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy is on the hot seat...again.

It may be a different week of the NFL season, but the Las Vegas Raiders have seen the same result every week for over a month. The Raiders hit the road on Sunday to take on the Cincinnati Bengals, and despite the two teams going back and forth in the first half the Bengals eventually ran away with it. After a Daniel Carlson field goal with 2:58 remaining in the second quarter, the Bengals scored 21 points, as the game quickly went from 10-10 to 31-10.

As we have seen throughout the season, the Raiders offense struggled mightily because of the quarterback play and play-calling, and Sunday was no different. Gardner Minshew found himself getting benched after starting for the second time this season, this time in favor of Desmond Ridder. The offense as a whole struggled to move the ball against a Bengals that, quite frankly, hasn't been as good as the Raiders made it look.

Las Vegas averaged just 3.7 yards per play on offense and were outgained by 156 yards, and had it not been for a garbage-time touchdown, wouldn't have scored on offense. While Raiders fans are well aware this team is only contending for a top draft pick at this point, they still haven't been liking the lack of creativity from offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.

It may only be his first year on the job, but some fans hope Sunday marked his last time calling plays for the Raiders. "Fire Luke Getsy," wrote one user. "3rd and 4 with 20 seconds to go, no timeouts and you call a fucking RB screen? Fire Luke Getsy into the sun.

Leave him in Cincy. Do something," added another. "Luke Getsy is going to be washing cars this time next year," commented another.

"Fire Luke getsy and Patrick Graham," said another who wants both coordinators gone. Matt Marton-Imagn Images Both Getsy and the Raiders hoped that the 40-year-old play caller would be able to make things work after the Chicago Bears fired him following last season. However, with the Raiders' offense lacking aggressiveness, creativity and overall effectiveness, it's becoming clear he may not be right for the job.

Head coach Antonio Pierce is also seemingly sitting on a hotter seat as each week goes by, but if he moves on from Getsy, it may buy him some more time. If there was one positive to take away from the loss, it's that the Raiders continue to ascend toward the top of the draft, which can help them secure their quarterback of the future. Now they just need to worry about having the right system in place for when they draft him.
