The New Orleans Saints announced the firing of head coach Dennis Allen on Monday, responding to the team's seven-game losing skid capped off by a one-point loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 9. While Allen is now gone, longtime Saints executive vice president/general manager Mickey Loomis is still at the helm. Based on some recent comments from Loomis, it appears he may not have fully agreed with the team's decision to get rid of Allen.
“I think Dennis Allen is a fantastic football coach, and I think anybody in our league who would talk about him thinks he’s a fantastic football coach. He is. I think in this case, look, the circumstances created the record.
That’s just the truth, and a lot of people don’t want to hear it," Loomis said, via team insider Nick Underhill. Loomis opposed rumors about locker-room turmoil and made excuses for the Saints' dreadful 2024 campaign. "But it just gets right back to what stares at you right in the face is that we’ve had an abnormal amount of injuries, including to our quarterback, and we haven’t been able to overcome that, and so that puts pressure and stress on the organization and ultimately it was cause for a change," Loomis continued.

A significant portion of Saints fans are calling for Loomis to step down. "DA lost the locker room well before this skid. Loomis needs to go now too," one wrote.
"He’s a lunatic. I pray every day he steps away from this organization," another said. "This confirms that Loomis needs to leave as well," another added.
"This is embarrassing. He clearly wasn’t on board with the firing of DA which means he’s incapable of being part of the solution moving forward," another wrote. #Saints won’t prosper again until Mickey gone https://t.
