Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are not where they want to be nine weeks into the 2024 NFL season. On Sunday afternoon, the Cowboys suffered a 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, marking their third straight following a 3-2 start to the year. Last season, Jones had built a well-rounded team that dominated throughout the regular season.
But come playoff time, it was more of the same in Big D, as the Green Bay Packers stormed into AT&T Stadium to blast the Cowboys 48-32 in the Wild Card round. Another early postseason exit. With the disappointing end, Jones ensured that he was "all in" on the Cowboys winning a Super Bowl, yet the 82-year-old's most noteworthy move over the offseason was bringing running back Ezekiel Elliott back to Dallas.
© Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports The Cowboys, who also lost defensive coordinator Dan Quinn over the offseason, have certainly paid for Jones' inactivity. Without Quinn, who left to coach the Washington Commanders, the Dallas defense has been one of the worst in the NFL, allowing 28.1 points per game (31st in the league) and 364.
8 total yards (26th). Even the presence of pass rushers Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, who have both been out since Week 4, didn't have the impact many are used to on the Dallas defense. The offense, led by quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, hasn't been much better.
Elliott has done next to nothing in his return to the team. He even was listed as inactive against Atlanta for disciplinary reasons. And now, Prescott could be out for the foreseeable future after suffering a hamstring injury.
Despite the injuries to many key stars, one would have thought Jones could have made some win-now moves over the offseason that would have improved the squad. Instead, he remained stagnant, leaving Cowboys fans as mad as ever, taking to social media to demand the sale of the franchise. "Just saying that I saw this coming.
Sell the team Jerry Jones," one fan said. Just saying that I saw this coming. Sell the team Jerry Jones.

With the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans and Washington Commanders coming up in November, the Dallas faithful will be praying that they get good news about Prescott. If not, the return of Parsons, Lawrence and Daron Bland likely won't be enough to save their season. Regardless of the outcome down the stretch, Jones is highly unlikely to even consider selling the Cowboys.
