Vijayawada: Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav has urged all voters, particularly the youth, to actively participate in the democratic process. He reminded citizens that voting is both a right and a duty, and emphasised the importance of ensuring that disabled individuals are given the opportunity to vote with dignity during elections in the state. In a statement issued on Saturday, the CEO highlighted that National Voters’ Day is celebrated on 25 January each year to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India.

This tradition began in 2011, with this year’s theme being “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure.” Explaining the day’s significance, Vivek Yadav stated that the aim is to encourage greater participation of young voters in the political process by celebrating the right to vote and promoting voter registration, particularly among newly eligible voters. He revealed that as of 6 January 2025, Andhra Pradesh has 4,14,40,447 registered voters, of which 5,14,646 are first-time voters.

To further voter awareness, 8,442 Electoral Literacy Clubs have been established for future voters in schools, alongside 24,404 such clubs in colleges and universities. Additionally, 32,251 Chunav Pathshalas and 1,689 voter awareness forums have been set up. The CEO also noted a net increase of 1,95,212 general electors compared to the draft electoral roll published on 29 October 2024, as part of the Special Summary Revision, 2025.
