U.S.-bound traffic at the California-Mexico border will be briefly halted Wednesday morning for a moment of silence to honor the victims of the Sept.

11, 2001, terrorist attacks, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

The remembrance is slated for 5:46 a.m. Wednesday at the San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, Tecate, Calexico and Andrade ports of entry, officials said.

“This moment of silence is dedicated to remembering and honoring those who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Normal traffic operations will resume immediately following the brief ceremony,” the federal agency said in a news release. The moment of silence has been held at land ports of entry — both for pedestrians and vehicles — for several years.

It lasts about one minute. CBP advised travelers to plan accordingly and remain patient during the short interruption..
