A 40-year-old man is being quizzed by police after allegedly making false bomb threats to the Coachella Music & Arts Festival. The annual event, which sees around 125,000 a day pour through its gates, started on Friday at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California , and will be spread over a two weekend period. At around 10.
40am on Saturday morning, Cathedral City Police officers responded to reports of a man acting suspiciously Agua Caliente Casino in Cathedral City, the authorities have confirmed. Security working at the site had their concerns raised after watching the individual and told police he had been driving a Tesla and telling people he would be responsible for bombing the festival - which held its first event in 1999. Santa Monica residents Davis Darvish was later identified as the owner of the car after police ran the vehicle's details through their system.
Later that day, at around noon, Palm Springs Police Officers found the vehicle of interest in the city of Palm Springs. Darvish was detained by cops at the scene, NBC Palm Springs reports . A search of the car was made but no weapons, explosives or bomb-making materials were found, according to CCPD.
Darvish was taken into custody on a $1million bail at the John Benoit Detention Center. CCPD Detectives were also investigating his activities prior to his contact with Agua Caliente Casino security. Coachella's first weekend only started on Friday and quickly turned to chaos before even officially kicking off.
Just hours before the doors were set to open at the iconic California festival, it was being slammed as the "worst in history" by some frustrated festival-goers, with some comparing it to the notorious Fyre Festival fiasco. Campers flooded social media with stories of disorganisation in the cark parks, turning what should be an exciting start into a nightmare for many. One person said: “Not only did we show up at 2am to get in line to get a good spot, but now have waited OVER 12 hours to even get to the security check.
"No porta potties in sight as we waited from 2am until 3pm now. The only porta potties available were at the security checkpoint inside the gates. "We were turned down all 12 hours and were forced to pee on the side of the roads.
A lot of people running out of gas and not restrooms. This is the worst organization I have ever seen at a festival and this is Coachella for god sakes.”.
