CALEXICO — Calexico Unified School District Superintendent Arturo Jimenez wrote a letter to the community in response to the CIF-SDS decision to disqualify the high school flag football team from playoffs. In the letter, Jimenez said that at Calexico High School integrity, sportsmanship, and adherence to CIF regulations is a priority. On Monday, November 18, the District was made aware that two of the high school’s female athletes participated in a flag football tournament outside of Calexico’s flag football program and in violation of CIF guidelines.

“In keeping with our commitment to transparency and ethical conduct, we promptly investigated the matter and then immediately reported our findings to CIF-San Diego Section officials,” the Superintendent wrote in the letter. “As a result, our flag football team will unfortunately forfeit its participation in the CIF playoffs this season.” Jimenez considered that while the outcome is regrettable, it reflects our unwavering dedication to upholding the values that define the school and athletic programs.

“We deeply empathize with our athletes, coaches, and community members who share in the disappointment of this news,” Jimenez continued. “Our focus now is on supporting our team, learning from this experience, and continuing to foster a culture of excellence both on and off the field.” The superintendent thanked the community for their understanding and ongoing support of Calexico’s student-athletes.

“Together, we remain proud of the achievements of our team and are committed to moving forward stronger than ever,” he wrote..
