Caldwell volleyball moves to 3-1

After losing the season opener, the Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute Cobras volleyball team has won three straight to start the season at 3-1. On Thursday, the Cobras picked up a third straight win against USC Union 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-22). Laney Craig led Caldwell in kills with 13 while Josie Chappell and Taylor McClure added 15 assists each.

Chappell also had five aces while McClure added three. Defensively, Emily Ramirez had 18 digs for the Cobras. Caldwell, ranked no.



9 nationally in the preseason rankings, opened with a 3-1 (16-25, 26-24, 24-26, 2426) loss to Cleveland Community College on Aug. 22. Ramirez logged 33 digs in the loss for Caldwell, and Craig had 16 kills.

The winning streak began two days later with a straight sets win over Wake Tech (2514, 25-17, 25-20). The Cobras rattled off nine straight points to start the match and never looked back. Chappell had 17 assists and 11 digs, and Ramirez logged 21 digs to lead the Cobras in that one.

On Tuesday, Caldwell dropped the opening set and then overcame a 13-3 deficit in the fourth to beat Southwest Virginia Community College 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-22). Get local news delivered to your inbox!.
