Scottie Scheffler sits three shots off the lead at The Masters after a battling performance on Friday and the world No.1 was playing under the watchful eye of Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark may remain the star attraction in the WNBA but her presence went unnoticed by Scottie Scheffler as he battled through day two at The Masters. The 2024 champion is currently tied for fifth after a frustrating bogey on the 18th of Friday , and sits three shots of leader Justin Rose. Scheffler had performed impressively on the opening day but endured a rather inconsistent second round, which got underway under the watchful eye of Clark.

An avid golf fan, the WNBA Rookie of the Year made the trip to Augusta and was in Scheffler's gallery as he took to the par-4 first hole. According to Dallas Morning News reporter Brad Townsend , Clark 'positioned herself' to catch Scheffler's eye as he made his way off the first green. It is claimed that the basketball star donned a white Masters cap for the occasion.

But such was the world No.1's focus on his efforts to retain the Green Jacket, he was too busy writing in his yardage book to spot his fellow sports star. Scheffler finished on 68 but that was not enough as he hit the range on Friday, eventually leaving at 8.

20 pm local time. Discussing his round, he said: "I mean, I had a couple of three-putts. I didn't hit as many fairways.

I got myself in trouble off the tee on 18. "It's really tough out there with the conditions. Extremely challenging when you get greens this fast and you get that much wind, especially when it's gusty.

It can be quite challenging. "I did a good job of making some key up-and-downs, and I had the chip-in on 12, good up-and-down for par on 13, took advantage of a look there on 14. Overall I felt like I did some good things out there to stay in the tournament.

" Clark meanwhile took her golf game to the LPGA Tour last November as she took part in a pro-am event alongside Nelly Korda. The Indiana Fever once joked that she would love to spend her WNBA off season on the golf course, and Korda was impressed with her talents. She revealed: "Obviously with the media attention she has gotten probably in the past year and a half, two years, you can see how she's comfortable playing in front of a larger crowd.

And she was just really enjoying it. You can tell. "She's definitely very talented.

She was picking the ball really clean. She was losing a couple shots to the right, but I asked her how many times a week she plays and I think with the amount of obligations she has she probably gets to the golf course once a week. So just play once a week she was playing really well.
