The Indiana Fever guard popped up on television screens during the final Sunday afternoon.She was a guest star on ESPN’s alternate cast for UConn’s win over South Carolina.The UConn Huskies ran out dominant 82-59 victors in Tampa, Florida to win the NCAA Tournament.
And arguably the most entertaining part of the game was happening on ESPN2.Clark joined Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi for their watchalong similar to Peyton and Eli Manning on Monday Night Football.The 23-year-old made a special appearance to watch UConn’s dominant win.
This time last year, her Iowa Hawyekes were beaten by the South Carolina Gamecocks in the championship game.Clark’s presence helped power the women’s championship game to higher ratings than the men.She went on to become No.
1 overall WNBA Draft pick by the Indiana Fever that summer. Women’s basketball legend Taurasi was doubtful last year whether Clark could have the same impact in the WNBA as she had in college.“Reality is coming,” Taurasi said last April.
“There’s levels to this thing and that’s just life.“We all went through it. You see it on the NBA side, and you’re going to see it on this side.
“You look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds.“But you’re going to against some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.”Taurasi added, “Not saying it’s not gonna translate, because when you’re great at what you do, you’re just gonna get better.
“But there is gonna be a transition period where you’re gonna have to give yourself some grace as a rookie.”Taurasi’s comments drew some criticism from Clark fans.But the pair seemed to laugh off the incident Sunday.
“Unfortunately reality is coming to me now,” Taurasi joked.Clark won WNBA Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-Star Game.She helped Indiana Fever from the worst team in the league into playoff contention.
