Two earthquakes struck Calayan, Cagayan early Monday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The first one occurred at 12:54 a.m.
and had a magnitude of 5.5. Its epicenter was located at 19.
20°N, 121.13°E - 013 km N 39° W of Dalupiri Island. The earthquake was tectonic and had a depth of 15 km.
Intensity V was felt in Calayan Island in Cagayan. Intensity III meanwhile was experienced in Pagudpud, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Laoag City, and San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte. No damage is expected but aftershocks may occur, PHIVOLCS said.
Magnitude 5.8 The second earthquake meanwhile occurred at 1:18 a.m.
and had a magnitude of 5.8. The quake's epicenter was located at 19.
71°N, 120.93°E - 073 km N 24° W of Dalupiri Island. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 48 km.
Intensity V was felt in Calayan, Cagayan, while Intensity IV was felt in Pasuquin, Bacarra, and San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte. Meanwhile, Intensity III was felt in Batac City, Ilocos Norte. PHIVOLCS said no damage is expected but aftershocks may occur.
