Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, the president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has hailed Edo Queens, Nigerian representative in the ongoing CAF Women Champions League, following their memorable 2-1 defeat of defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies to advance to the semifinal. The remarkable victory made the Queens the second Nigerian club to achieve this feat. Consequently, Gusau has expressed joy at the team’s accomplishment, praising their extraordinary fighting spirit and resilience.

“The NFF and the Nigeria football family are very happy at the accomplishments of Edo Queens. We congratulate the Edo State Government and all those involved in this remarkable progress of the team,” Gusau said. Edo Queens’ journey to the semifinal has been nothing short of impressive.

After winning the Nigerian title for the first time last season, they went on to clinch the WAFU B Women’s Champions League title in Cote d’Ivoire. Their victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, who had reached the final of every edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League since its inception in 2021, is a testament to their determination and ambition. The Queens’ semifinal match against TP Mazembe of DR Congo is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at 4 pm Morocco time.

With their sights set on the title, Edo Queens are poised to make history and bring glory to Nigerian football..
