Cadillac reportedly said it would continue to make its smaller XT5 model but will replace the XT6 with an output of its more expensive electric vehicle, the Cadillac Vistiq. The XT5 was meant to stop being produced in 2025 but will continue production through 2026.The memo was sent to the Spring Hill production plant in Tennessee.
The notification also said that employees at the manufacturing plant will have planned downtime on May 12.“This is a testament to our team’s commitment to building vehicles that our customers love and our overall manufacturing flexibility,” the memo said. A GM spokesperson wrote in a statement to the outlet, promoting six new vehicles that “represent the future of the brand.
”The vehicles are: Escalade IQ, Escalade MCM, Optiq, Vistiq, Lyriq-V and Cadillac CT5.“We will continue to make the necessary adjustments to the portfolio to maintain growth in critical luxury segments,” the statement said. The XT6’s target demographic is similar to that of the Escalade, and it aims to be the right car for families making at least $200,000.
The gas-powered vehicle starts at $52,590.The Cadillac Vistiq, which the company will now focus on selling, starts at $78,790.The Vistiq also includes a $1,395 “destination charge,” which buyers must pay for the car’s delivery.
Despite the brand’s push for more electric vehicles, some dealerships argued that there isn’t as high a demand for the more expensive electric cars. One unnamed Cadillac dealer said customers will pay an extra $500 in car payments after he broke down the pricing difference between the XT6 and the Vistiq.According to the dealer, the average lease pricing for the XT6 is $600, whereas the Vistiq’s is $1,100.
Cadillac's statementIn a statement emailed to the Free Press, a GM spokesperson said the company introduced six new products in less than a year that represent the future of the brand: Escalade IQ, Escalade MCM, Optiq, Vistiq, Lyriq-V and Cadillac CT5.“We will continue to make the necessary adjustments to the portfolio to maintain growth in critical luxury segments,” the statement said.Although the brand is marketed towards luxury consumers, the dealer doesn’t think the massive price hike will go over well.
“People still feel more comfortable with gas-powered cars,” he said. “I do believe it’s going to hurt us.”Cadillac did not immediately reply to The U.
