Surat: A 41-year-old chartered accountant, Prakash Agrawal, was arrested by Vesu police for allegedly knocking down a 65-year-old beggar outside a temple on Thursday. The victim, Gangaba Koli (Patil), was sitting outside Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Vesu area when Agrawal rammed his car into her, killing her on the spot. The incident was recorded on the temple's CCTV camera.
Patil lived in Nana Kaka Chawl in Vesu area and earned her livelihood by begging outside the temple. When she was begging outside the temple on Thursday, a car passing near the temple rammed into her around 12.45pm.
The car driver fled the scene immediately. However, based on CCTV footage, police reached the owner of the car, who informed them that the car was being driven by Agrawal. Police arrested Agrawal, a resident of Aagam Residency in Vesu area.
Police booked him under Sections 281, 125 (A), 106 of BNS and relevant sections of the MV Act for rash and negligent driving.
