KALPETTA: Voting is progressing in Wayanad and Chelakkara, where by-elections are being held. Long queues of voters were seen outside various polling booths since the morning. Polling, which began at 7 am, will conclude at 6 pm.
According to reports, the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat and the Chelakkara assembly seat have witnessed a voter turnout of 30 and 32 percent respectively. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is the UDF candidate in Wayanad. CPI's senior leader Sathyan Mokeri is the LDF candidate, while BJP's Navya Haridas is the NDA candidate.
Priyanka Gandhi visited various polling booths in Wayanad. A large number of Chooralmala landslide victims came to vote. Two booths are arranged for them.
This is the first election since the disaster. Free vehicles have also been arranged for the disaster victims to reach the polling booths from the relief camps. Meanwhile, CPM's UR Pradeep is taking on UDF's Ramya Haridas in the Chelakkara assembly constituency.
