Ocean Legacy Foundation, based in Steveston, has been named the 2024 Green Business of the Year by the Richmond Chamber of Commerce. Celebrating their 10th year, Ocean Legacy is a global leader in eliminating ocean plastic pollution and advancing circular solutions to plastic waste. Recognized for their unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and their significant impact, Ocean Legacy has truly set themselves apart in the fight against plastic waste.
Since 2021, they’ve removed millions of pounds of ocean plastics, transforming them into practical products like green bins, planter pots and plastic lumber. They have developed a comprehensive program to end the plastic pollution crisis called EPIC, an acronym which integrates Education, Policy, Infrastructure and Cleanup. Their facility—Canada’s largest Plastic Pollution Emergency Response operation—processes up to 1,000 kilograms of waste per hour, setting a benchmark for innovation in waste recovery.
Recognized as one of Canada’s Best Plastic Solutions Providers by the Clean50 Awards, Ocean Legacy collaborates with scientists, governments, non-profits, industries and citizens to combat plastic pollution. Co-founder and executive director Chloe Dubois, a Richmond resident, also serves as chair of the IPP Global Plastics Treaty negotiations, furthering their global impact.
