A bus station has had an £800,000 makeover with modern shelters and wireless charging points for passengers. Uckfield bus station in Bell Lane has been given a facelift in a bid to improve services in the town and encourage more people to use public transport. The improved facilities will also include better real-time information on bus times as well as better street lighting and a cycle shelter.
East Sussex County Councillor Clare Dowling said: “I’m delighted with the transformation of Uckfield’s bus station and hope that it will encourage more people to use public transport. “As well as improving the look of the area, the project has resulted in better facilities for passengers and the enhanced real-time information will help people better plan their journeys. “It will also go some way to help with air quality in the area as the new bus and cycle shelter roofs are planted with drought-tolerant plants that absorb pollutants.
“I’d like to thank the public for their patience while work was carried out and hope they can now enjoy the benefits.” The £800,000 project also includes a new footway and cross points to the south side of Bell Walk. The transformation was funded through the county council as well as contributions from developers.
