A Burlington woman is accused of helping the suspect in a deadly shooting escape to Chicago and later returning to the area to drive the man’s family to Chicago as well. Kathryn Cable, 27, was arrested by the Burlington Police Department on Monday and charged with accessory after the fact-murder 1st (class D felony). At around 10:19 p.
m. on Nov. 24, the Burlington Police Department was called to the 500 block of S.
7th St. for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived at the scene, they located with Alondro Lee Pratt, 28, of Racine, Wisconsin, and Richard Jackson, 50, of Burlington, who had each sustained gunshot wounds, and officers then provided emergency medical aid to the two men.
Jackson was transported to Southeast Iowas Regional Medical Center and was later transported to the University of Iowa hospital to be treated for his injuries. Jackson was last reported to be in stable condition. Pratt succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses identified Shermando Harper, 18, of Burlington, as the person who shot Pratt and Jackson, according to a criminal complaint. Cable was named by witnesses as Harper’s girlfriend, those witnesses told police Cable’s car was parked nearby the scene of the shooting, and investigators located video footage of the car leaving the area at a high rate of speed after the shooting, the complaint states. Investigators were able to track Cable’s vehicle heading towards Chicago that same night and discovered several cameras in Chicago that caught footage of the car driving in the area, as well as video footage showing Harper and Cable in the car together in Chicago on multiple occasions, the complaint states.
On Dec. 2, Harper was taken into custody in Chicago by the U.S.
Marshals Service and later transported back to Burlington and charged with first-degree murder (class A felony) and attempted murder (class B felony). During an interview with detectives, Harper told police Cable was inside a home on the 500 block of S. 7th Street when the shooting occurred and said Cable drove him in her car to Chicago and then came back and picked up his family members and drove them to Chicago as well, according to the complaint.
A warrant for Cable’s arrest was issued on Saturday. She is being held at the Des Moines County Jail on $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2 p.
m. Dec. 27 at the Des Moines County Courthouse.
Harper is being held at the Des Moines County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for 2 p.m.
