Police must attend to assist the villages located along Papa and Rearea villages in the Hiri-Koiari district, Central province. Villagers told Commander of National Capital District and Central province Benjamin Turi that the communities have always called for assistance and for too long they have been ignored by the police officers who never come to assist them. Commander Turi assured them that they would change that perception adding that “everyone has the right to call for help from police, no one is too be ignored when they need assistance reporting a crime or are in the vicinity of a crime being committed.
” He acknowledged the initiative that the village leaders came up with by creating the community bylaws for the community he believed that this would help the leaders to make sure everyone in the village behaved well. Commander Turi, who was accompanied by Central Police station Commander Inspector Ken Pamenda, assured the village leaders and the people that police will show their presence there. Since the police post is now opened, the police will call in anytime to be with the officers manning the police post.
Commander Turi, while speaking at the village, also called on the youths and everyone in the village to respect each other when celebrating..
