The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, received the Unity Torch for the National Sports Festival at the Government House in Damaturu, symbolising national unity through sports, on Friday. Buni, at the event, was represented by the Deputy Governor Idi Gubana, who highlighted the power of sports to bring people together and transcend differences in gender, race, ethnicity, and religion. The governor emphasised that “Sports uniquely unite Nigerians towards a common goal.
As such, the state government will support the state athletes participating in the national sports festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, 2025,” he stated. In his remark, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barma Shettima, highlighted the state’s success in hosting the Northeast Zonal Elimination Sports Games, where Team Yobe State excelled and will represent the region in multiple sports events at the national festival.
The festival, scheduled for May 16-25, 2025, aims to promote unity and sports development nationwide. The Unity Torch, presented by the National Sports Commission, will be taken to other states across the country to foster participation and engagement..
