Josh Addo-Carr has been issued a show cause notice to front the Bulldogs board next week with the NRL club moving to terminate his contract after a positive drugs test. The State of Origin winger received a breach notice by the club after testing positive to cocaine during a roadside drugs test last month. The Sydney Morning Herald reported Friday that Addo-Carr has been invited to front the Bulldogs board next Thursday to show cause as to why he should not be sacked for allegedly misleading officials and bringing the club into disrepute.
The Herald said sources told them the Bulldogs believe Addo-Carr’s actions “did not reflect the culture and standards they want their players to meet but were reluctant to terminate his deal immediately.” Josh Addo-Carr runs with the ball against Melbourne. The Addo-Carr incident occurred in the week before their first finals game since 2016 – and it left general manager Phil Gould with egg on his face after his initial strong denials. Addo-Carr has denied taking cocaine. His deal for next season is reportedly worth $500,000 and he has been linked to the Dragons.
Dragons coach Shane Flanagan told the Herald: “That’s an interesting one. “You better go and talk to his manager. What I view a player is worth and what a manager views what a player is worth could be completely different.
I have never spoken to Josh about it. “Our first priority is waiting to see what eventuates with the Clint Gutherson situation first. Maybe down the track we might possibly look at the Fox.
He’s a quality player, he’s had a hiccup and we’ll address it. But it’s not on the immediate radar.” It was reported the Dragons will not consider signing Addo-Carr unless he first meets with chairman Andrew Lancaster to allay concerns over his character.
