BRECON ended second best in a 43-28 defeat at Bonymaen in the Admiral Premiership on Saturday. Joel Price, Tomos Davies, Jack Griffiths and Sam Jones crossed for tries and James Dixon provided the conversions but the Powys side made the trip home with a losing bonus point. Builth Wells narrowly lost 25-24 at Skewen in division one west central.
Skewen started the first 20 minutes brightly and raced into a 12 point lead before Builth struck back through the trusty driving maul dotted down by Sion Coyle leaving the score 15-5 at the break. Builth’s second half was a lot better with good linking play between the back rows of Iwan Coyle, Cerith Davies and Sion Coyle and the next try came from Dylan Jones who scored from a lovely break by brother Ryan and scored under the posts. Skewen hit back to establish an eight point lead but Sion Coyle drove over in the corner for another try to reduce the arrears to a point.
Another good passaged of play saw Sion Coyle celebrate his third try of the day but the conversion was missed. Skewen struck back after sustained pressure to edge a point ahead with a further try late on and the Bulls could not find a response. COBRA crashed to a 33-12 defeat at home to Pwllheli in division one north.
Tries from Lewys Cooke and Ieuan Williams with one conversion from Llew Williams was not enough for the hosts. COBRA Athletic signed off their division three north east campaign with a 57-0 thrashing of Dinbych Athletic. Bryn Roberts, Ross Barr, Iestyn Morgan, Bryn Edwards, Wil Worthington, James Smith, Rhodri Davies, Cian Roberts and Matt Jones crossed for tries with Smith kicking five conversions and Davies adding one.
Llanidloes stand on the cusp of the third division title following a 54-14 demolition of Bro Gwernant. James Plumridge and Mike Silvester starred with each crossing for two tries each while Stuart Jones, Morgan Davies, Rob Evans, Rich Evans and Jordan Davies completed the try count with Silvester adding six conversions. Gwernyfed thrashed Llanhilleth 57-21 with Gethin Davies starring with four tries while Jack Williams and Dylan Skyrme each crossed twice and Kelly Davies completed the try count with Joe Winfield adding the extras.
Crickhowell and Whiteheads battled out a 27-27 draw with Ethan Maddy, Tom Holley and James Lane crossing for tries and Joe Palmer converted..
