Times News Network Ludhiana: Faced with the daunting task of bolstering finances of the cash-strapped civic body , MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal called a meeting of officers of various branches on Monday to review the process of recovery of dues . Unhappy with the recovery report of the building branch , he reprimanded the officers and gave them the target of collecting Rs 1.40 crore by next week.
MC Zone-D collected around Rs 10 lakh while building branch officials of other zones collected only Rs 5 lakh each. He reprimanded officials and asked why they were not making recoveries by assessing challans issued for illegal construction. The commissioner has instructed the Building Branch, Zone-D to collect Rs 50 lakh by next week and officials of other zones to collect Rs 30 lakh each.
He expressed satisfaction over recovery of the property tax branch but instructed officials to speed up recovery from defaulters from whom dues worth crores were pending due to wrong assessment. The commissioner also asked officials to submit a status report regarding recovery of about Rs 3 crore due from a mall in three days. He has called a separate meeting of officers of the O&M cell for recovery of outstanding bills of sewerage and water.
