The cult favourite series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer , will be available for free viewing in the UK starting tomorrow (April 3). All seven seasons of the supernatural drama are set to arrive on ITVX , with the popular spin-off Angel following suit a month later on May 1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, created by writer and director Joss Whedon, originally aired from 1997 to 2003.
The show, based on Whedon's 1992 film of the same name, continues to attract new fans despite being over 25 years old. Fans of Buffy were delighted by recent news of a reboot , with the iconic Sarah Michelle Gellar slated to return both in a recurring role and as an executive producer. But for now, ahead of the much-anticipated TV comeback of the Buffyverse, British viewers can relish the 90s show in all its splendour.
According to ITVX, the synopsis for the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer is as follows: "After moving to Sunnydale, California, Buffy Anne Summers (Sarah Michelle Geller) just wants to be a normal teenager." "Back in Los Angeles, her first Watcher had died, she inadvertently burned down the gymnasium at her old high school, and her parents got a divorce. "The move to Sunnydale is supposed to give both Buffy and her mother Joyce a fresh start, but she then meets school librarian Rupert Giles and quickly learns that there is no escaping her destiny.
"With Giles as her new Watcher, Buffy reluctantly steps back into her role as the Slayer - however, this time she is not fighting alone. "Buffy now has an inner circle of special friends - Willow, Xander, Cordelia, and a mysterious young man named Angel - ready to join the fight and drive in a stake or two if need be." In addition to Geller, other Buffy cast alumni include fan favourite James Marsters, How I Met Your Mother's Alyson Hannigan, Bones star David Boreanaz, Ted Lasso actor Anthony Head and the late Gossip Girl actress Michelle Trachtenberg, who sadly passed away in February, 2025.
Many of the cast members from Buffy also went on to star in spin-off show Angel, which will premiere on ITVX next month, reports the Mirror . The synopsis for Angel reads: "A centuries-old vampire cursed with a conscience, Angel (David Boreanaz) has left the small California town of Sunnydale and the only woman he ever loved to take up residence in the City of Angels. "Between the pervasive evil and countless temptations lurking beneath the city's glittering facade, Los Angeles proves to be the ideal address for a fallen vampire looking to save a few lost souls - and in turn perhaps redeem his own by restoring hope to those locked in a losing battle with their own demons.
" For fans of the vampire genre, The Vampire Diaries, Vampire Diaries: Legacies and The Originals are also available to watch on ITVX now. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is streaming from Thursday, April 3 on ITVX..
