SEAFOOD is an essential part of Chinese New Year meals as it carries connotations of abundance and prosperity, making buffet spreads like Golden Seafood Feast Dinner at Hompton by the Beach Penang a great option for festive reunions. It will be served on the eve and first two days of Chinese New Year (Jan 28 to 30) at the hotel’s scenic Spice Garden restaurant on Level 11 overlooking the Tanjung Tokong coastline. Diners can expect an array of symbolic offerings, starting with the seafood-on-ice section that will have scallops, king prawns, sea snails, flower crabs and sashimi.
Hot dishes vary each night but will include seasonal favourites like Dried Oyster Soup with Sea Moss, Seafood Treasures Soup, Braised Sea Cucumber with Abalone, Gratinated Oysters, Seabass Fillets in Nyonya Sauce, Kam Heong Squid, Clams in Hot Bean Paste, Baked Mud Crabs and Braised Tiger Prawns. Adding variety to the mix are Lemon Plum Sauce Chicken and Duck Meat Kway Chap, carvery specialities such as Roasted Lamb and Roasted Duck, as well as charcoal-barbecued meats. Beautifully presented desserts round off the offerings – think Osmanthus Jelly, Chilled Sea Coconut with Longan, Sweet Red Bean Cream with Glutinous Rice Balls and various CNY cookies from pineapple tarts to honeycomb biscuits, kuih kapit and kuih bahulu.
Guests dining on any of the three evenings also stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes and enjoy an auspicious start to the Year of the Snake. The buffet is available from 7pm to 10pm and priced at RM198 for adults, RM178 for seniors and RM108 for children on Chinese New Year Eve. For the first and second days, the rate is RM178 for adults, RM148 for seniors and RM98 for children.
Diners can add RM50 per person for free flow of beer or wine. Those preferring a more private dining experience can opt for the Golden Reunion Feast, with eight-course banquets priced at RM1,388 or RM1,688 per table of 10 pax. Each package offers two menus and is available daily until Jan 27.
Finally, there is the Golden Harmony Western and Oriental Tea Set priced at RM60 for two persons. This is served at Elementos Tapas and Lounge on Level 1 from 2pm to 6pm daily, until Jan 31. All prices are nett.
