BTS member Kim Taehyung aka V continuously wrote songs, and showed them to fans on occasional livestreams, only to start over entirely, before finding the right direction for his debut solo album Layover. While working on the project, V experimented with different genres and songwriting styles before hitting the realization he didn’t want to dash forward furiously, instead, he needed to take detours and find new possibilities to enjoy his solo journey. V reshaped the songs from Layover constantly, dabbing through slow-burning R&B and soul-inspired pop, that he filled in layered moods of longing, sadness, and desire.

Leaning on the images of rainy days and blue night skies, he perfectly set a vibe with the album, which in this age of TikTok and reels, has become an essential skill. Layover was filled with complicated feelings that surround a sense of nostalgia, with its romanticization of the past and all its regrets. Similar to the themes of his soundtracks for Korean dramas like Christmas Tree from Our Beloved Summer and Sweet Night from Itaewon Class.

Additionally, the project also drew inspiration from the spirit of the nineties with its palette of jazzy pianos, warm bass, and fluttering flute solos pulling from V’s love for jazz and classical music. It was a testimony of his idealism for legendary artists like Frank Sinatra, Chek Baker, and many more. On Sunday, V’s Layover clocked one and on the special occasion, he made a brief appearance on social media to celebrate the anniversary of his debut album and the 7th birthday of his pet Yeontan.

The BTS idol interacted with fans on Kakao Talk group chat in several messages, where he joked, “How is everyone doing? I came here because the verification process in other rooms was too difficult.” Taehyung randomly joined a Kim Taehyung fan KakaoTalk group chat! 🐯: How has everyone been~? 🐯: I came here because the other rooms had made the verification process too difficult 🐯: Oh, haha 🐯: Aren't you going to say hello? 🐯: I have to go do evening roll call now. I'll.

The Slow Dancing hitmaker did not fail to praise the latest music release ‘Neva Play’ of his hyung RM with Megan Thee Stallion.
