Kolkata: Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee accused BSF of allowing illegal border-crossing by Bangladeshis into the state as part of a "central government blueprint", alleging the infiltration was politically motivated to discredit her government. "The border is not guarded by TMC or police; it is guarded by BSF," she said Thursday. "They are facilitating infiltration, allowing criminals to cross the border, commit murders, and escape.
I will write a strong letter to Centre about this issue." In response, BSF expressed disappointment over the allegations but refrained from escalating the matter. "We are a responsible force performing our duty at the border.
Statements like these dent our morale," said Nilotpal Kumar Pandey, spokesperson for BSF's South Bengal Frontier. The chief minister said while the state welcomes medical tourists from Bangladesh, criminal activities & terrorist threats wouldn't be tolerated. She alleged a tacit "adjustment" between BSF and infiltrators and claimed illegal entry was occurring via buses, trains, and even planes.
"But no list (passenger manifest) is shared with us," the chief minister said. Meanwhile, Banerjee blamed police negligence for the murder of a local TMC neta and her long-time associate, Dulal Sarkar, who was shot dead Thursday. CCTV showed 62-year-old Sarkar being chased and shot by four assailants as he got off his car and tried to hide in a shop.
The chief minister questioned why local cops had withdrawn Sarkar's security in 2021 despite him facing previous murder attempts. BSF allowing Bangladeshi infiltration as part of Centre's 'blueprint': Mamata Banerjee
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee accused the BSF of facilitating illegal border-crossing from Bangladesh, alleging a central government agenda to undermine her administration. She plans to address this with the Centre. The BSF refuted the claims, emphasizing their commitment to their duties at the border. Banerjee also attributed the murder of a local TMC leader to police negligence.
