1 2 3 Pune: A brothel keeper was arrested from the Budhwar Peth area on Saturday on the charge of selling a 16-year-old Bangladeshi girl to four women, including a Bangladeshi national, for Rs 3 lakh and forcing her into prostitution. The Faraskhana police have also filed a case against the four women. The action followed the escape of the minor girl, a native of Bogura in Bangladesh, from the brothel on April 2.
According to the Faraskhana police she survived on alms from strangers till she reached the Hadapsar police station on April 8 and narrated her ordeal to the officers there. After recording her statement, the police registered a case of human trafficking, procuration of a minor and selling the child for prostitution. Senior inspector Prashant Bhasme of the Faraskhana police said, "The Hadapsar police shifted the girl to a rescue centre and registered a case, which was transferred to our police station on Friday for further probe.
We have arrested the brothel keeper for forcing the minor girl into prostitution. We are searching for the Bangladeshi woman. As of now, we are ascertaining if she is in Pune or any other place in Maharashtra or India.
" The officer said, "We have recorded a detailed statement of the girl. The girl told us that she was staying with her mother and elder brother, after her father deserted the family. She has cleared Std VIII exams.
Her mother works as a sweeper." According to the police, the Bangladeshi woman accused also hailed from Bogura. "She came to India illegally and was staying in the Bhosari-Dighi areas.
She went to Bogura about five months ago and lured the girl with a promise of a job in Pune. The two then illegally crossed the border and came to Pune by train," Bhasme said. He said, "The Bangladeshi woman took the girl to the Tulshibaug area last Dec and showed her to the brothel keeper and others.
The brothel keeper bought the girl for Rs 3 lakh. She then took her to the brothel and forced her into prostitution." The girl was taken to a govt hospital for treatment before she was shifted to the rescue centre, the police said.
