In many ways, the US and the UK have a lot in common. From sharing a language to many cultural and historical reference points, the US regularly attracts millions of holidaymakers from the UK each year. However, for as many things the two countries share, there are just as many differences.

One content creator has pointed out in a video posted to his TikTok that even something as basic as the setup and layout of a residential street in the US is totally different from how things work in the UK. Jase posted the video to his account - @Jaseinamerica - which boasts over 348,000 followers, and it quickly wracked up thousands of likes and comments from people who were pretty astounded at the myriad of basic differences. Even Jase himself as he documents his time in the US, captioned the video by noting it was "wild" just how many basic differences there were between a street in the UK and the US.

"First things first," Jase said in the video whilst pointing out a fire hydrant by the pavement - or sidewalk as it is called in America, "these hydrants, we do not have them in the UK, but they seem to be everywhere in America." Some people from the US in the comment section were pretty astounded by this, with one writing: "[What do you mean] no fire hydrant?? How do your firefighters not run out of water?" However, the UK does have regularly positioned fire hydrants for the Fire Service to use, they just look different, and are normally marked out with a yellow sign that features an 'H'. "Next up, there are shutters on every single window," Jase pointed out in the neighbourhood he was walking through.

"I think it's to keep out the sunlight from the houses, I'm not sure, but that is new. Another big difference is there are no fences or walls between the road and your garden, or your house. In the UK every house has a wall or a fence, like a blockade I guess.

" The content creator then pointed out that he had seen smaller metal fences used in some homes in the US, but they are a variety that aren't really seen back in the UK. "Don't even get me started on the size of your wheelie bins," Jase joked, which seemed to be much larger than those used in the UK. Jase also joked that he "understood why people don't walk anywhere in America," because of how spread out the properties are, and showed on the video how long just one road was in the neighbourhood he was exploring.

Another difference Jase noted was that road junctions only feature "sharp bends" and that you rarely see a curved road, or "gradual turn" and that people in the US often waved their flags on their homes, something done much more rarely in the UK. Finally, Jase pointed out that most of the houses in the neighbourhood he was exploring were detached, whereas it is more common to see Terraced or Semi-Detached properties in the UK.
