A tourist attraction that had been delayed with no opening date in sight has been given planning permission by the council to be installed near the city centre . The Upside Down House, an attraction known for previously appearing at Cribbs Causeway before closing in 2022 , will be installed within the Harbourside . The quirky and family-friendly attraction will be located next to the Bristol Wheel , which will remain whilst the attraction is open.
The two-storey house will be in operation for a year. Planning permission for the attraction was given by Bristol City Council on December 5, after initial documents were submitted in August. Upside Down House UK had initially hoped to have opened on October 1 according to those original documents.
The decision says that the buildings to be installed, which includes a ticket office, will need to be removed on or before December 6, 2025. The land which it sits on will need to be “restored to its former use” on this date. Join our WhatsApp group dedicated to events, reviews and food & drink news.
Founded in late 2018, the Upside Down House has received more than a million visitors across various sites in England. The house will be coloured 'tele magenta' - a dark pink - which aims to complement the colourful houses of Cliftonwood. The house will be slightly slanted and stand on a pre-cast concrete foundation which means the house can be dismantled in two days and return the terrace back to normal.
Connected to the house will be the ticket booth. Within the officer report on the council’s planning portal, it can be revealed that there were no objections to the attraction. At the time of writing, building has not begun at the Harbourside and an opening date is unknown.
