The latest proposals for the South West Quadrant are for more than 90 homes, together with refurbishing commercial buildings and the demolition of others considered past their 'best by' date. Fourteen affordable flats, one and two-bed, will be provided as part of the development, less than half of the recommended number needed to comply with local housing policy, although an independent investigation concluded that any more than seven across the site would be unaffordable. All of the affordable flats will be within the main St Michael's Lane building.

Dorset Council's western area planning committee was told that there would be legal agreements with the developer, Hayward & Co, to ensure that the affordable housing was started before the first open market home is sold, and that all the affordable homes would have to be completed before 50 per cent of market homes are ready for occupation.
