Road connectivity to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Telangana got snapped after Piligada bridge was swept away on Monday as incessant rains continued to pound Odisha's Malkangiri district for the last several days. Normal life has been adversely affected as intense rainfall continues to batter the district. While major rivers are flowing at a dangerous level, water is flowing above the bridges at several places in the district.

With bridges under water, hundreds of trucks and other vehicles on their way to Koraput and Andhra Pradesh are stuck on roadsides. “The Piligada bridge has been washed away due to the continuous downpour. Many construction machines were also swept away after the new bridge got submerged due to a rise in the water level of the river,” said a local.

“Several machines along with Piligada bridge were washed away due to the rains,” said another local. The situation in Malkangiri is likely to worsen further as the tribal dominated district is very much likely to witness more spells of rain. The IMD has issued an orange warning for heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) for the district till 8.
