The company that owns the Utah-born Squatters Craft Beers and Wasatch Brewery labels won’t be making those brands in Utah any more, once they close their Salt Lake City brewery at the end of May. Squatters and Wasatch announced Thursday on Instagram that their parent company, Monster Brewing Company, won’t be renewing the lease on the brewery, taproom and beer store at 1763 S. 300 West in Salt Lake City.
The location will close on May 23, the post said. Production of Squatters and Wasatch beers will move to other breweries in the Monster network as of May 27, according to a statement from Ray LaRue, president of Monster Brewing. “Both will continue to be distributed through our existing network without interruption of supply or availability,” the statement said.
Since the Squatters/Wasatch facility is the only Monster-owned brewery in Utah, according to an online map , production of the two beer brands will be moving outside of Utah. The closure will mean 25 people will lose their jobs. LaRue said they will be offered a separation package and encouraged to apply for other positions within the company.
The statement didn’t specify where exactly the beers would be produced, but the Instagram post from Wasatch and Squatters said they will “remain available through our forever home state of Utah.” “We believe in the legacy of Squatters and Wasatch and are committed to maintaining their high-quality standards and each brand’s unique identity,” LaRue said. “Our Utah-based commercial team will continue to support their success and growth locally.
” Monster’s decision won’t affect the Squatters Pub Brewery downtown, the Wasatch Brew Pub and other affiliated restaurants, because they are owned by a separate company..
