BREAKING: Timmy Herrin strikes out four as Guardians clinch American League playoff berth

Former Terre Haute South High School multi-sport standout Timmy Herrin fanned four batters in 1 1/3 innings, as one of seven pitchers Cleveland used Thursday afternoon in the Guardians' 3-2 10-inning victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Former Terre Haute South High School multi-sport standout Timmy Herrin fanned four batters in 1 1/3 innings, as one of seven pitchers Cleveland used Thursday afternoon in the Guardians' 3-2 10-inning victory over the Minnesota Twins. The triumph clinched an American League playoff berth for the Guardians, who lead the AL Central Division by 6 1/2 games over the second-place Kansas City Royals. All six of the Guardians’ relievers held the Twins scoreless Thursday.

For the season, the left-handed Herrin is 5-0 with a 1.90 earned-run average. Andrés Giménez singled home José Ramírez from second base in the 10th inning to win the game for Cleveland.



Eli Morgan, the Guardians' seventh pitcher, picked up the win after hurling a scoreless top of the 10th. The Tribune-Star contributed to this report..
