On the heels of a federal judge dropping Mayor Eric Adams’ historic corruption charges , Hizzoner announced on Thursday that he would forego the Democratic primary and instead pursue an independent bid for re-election. “Today, Mayor Eric Adams officially declares his candidacy for re-election as an independent candidate for Mayor of New York City,” Adams’ campaign spokesperson Todd Shapiro said in a statement. “New Yorkers are strong, and deserve strong leadership,” the mayor said in a campaign video released Thursday morning. “There isn’t a liberal or a conservative way to fix New York; there is a right way or a wrong way. .
