The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed a case filed by Action Alliance’s Adekunle Omoaje, deeming it baseless and without merit. The tribunal ruled that Omoaje, who did not participate in the governorship election, lacked the standing to challenge the outcome. Omoaje, who sought to contest the election’s validity, argued that he was not recognized as the party’s National Chairman, thus preventing his nomination of a candidate.

However, the tribunal found no support for his claim in the Electoral Act 2022, which rendered his petition invalid. In his petition, Omoaje had sought the annulment of the election results, claiming the victory of Governor Okpebholo and the APC was unlawful due to non-compliance with the Electoral Act and allegations of corruption. The tribunal, however, concluded that Action Alliance’s inability to field a candidate stemmed from their failure to sign the necessary nomination form.
