AUSTIN, Texas — While the first half of the week holds warm conditions across Central Texas, be prepared to break out the fall jackets again as the workweek comes to a close. On Wednesday night, a dry cold front will enter the region from the Texas Hill Country, dropping down low morning temperatures by about 10 to 20 degrees on Thursday morning. This will feel a bit chilly compared to the 50- and 60-degree lows Austin experienced earlier on in the week.
Northerly winds take over in the wake of the front. Hill Country lows could be as cool as the mid- or lower 40s for Mason, Llano and Gillespie counties. Clear skies will allow cooler temperatures to develop overnight Thursday into Friday.
Preliminary weather model outputs decrease temperatures to the 40s areawide on Friday morning. A few pockets could even dip into the upper 30s. After that, Central Texas warms up just in time for the weekend.
