Vadodara: Karamsad-based Shree Krishna Hospital successfully retrieved organs from a 30-year-old road accident victim from Uttar Pradesh (UP) who was declared brain-dead . The deceased, Mulayam Yadav , a painter from Gorakhpur, UP, met with an accident while riding his bike on March 19. He was admitted to the hospital where, despite the best efforts of the medical team, he was declared brain-dead on March 23.
A panel of expert doctors, including Dr. Samir Patel, head of the critical care center; Dr. Rachit Patel, intensivist; Dr.
Mirant Doshi, neurosurgeon; and Dr. Jitesh Desai, medical superintendent, confirmed his brain-death as per the protocol outlined in the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994. "The intensivist team played a crucial role in managing and maintaining blood pressure, hormonal balance, and the function of major organs like the heart, liver, kidneys, and lungs after the patient was declared brain-dead.
Organ retrieval is only possible if these functions are meticulously maintained, highlighting the critical importance of this management," said Dr Samir Patel. Surat-based NGO The Donate Life assisted in counselling the patient's relatives, who were in UP at the time of the accident. The organization provided guidance to his friends and family, following which his father and other family members consented to organ donation .
The deceased's organs provided a new lease of life to three individuals, with liver transplantation carried out at Zydus Hospital, Ahmedabad, while kidney transplants were done in Ahmedabad and Rajkot..
