IN Eccleshill United’s final home fixture of the NCEL Premier Division campaign, they were able to hold local rivals Campion to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening. Both sides no longer have anything to play for with just one game remaining, so last night’s penultimate fixture was all about claiming local bragging rights. However, the Bradford rivals had to settle for a stalemate following a late flurry of action.
With the game heading for a goalless draw, up stepped Idris Atta in the 70th minute to nudge the hosts in front. It sparked the visitors into life, and they were soon level through Samuel Bradley, who made it 1-1 just six minutes after the home side had taken the lead. His goal signalled the end of the scoring, and it means that Campion have risen to 10th place in the NCEL Premier Division ahead of their final match which takes place on Saturday at home to Bottesford Town (3pm).
However, 11th placed Knaresborough Town, who sit just one point behind Lee Ashforth’s side, have a game in hand on Campion and still have two games remaining. As for Eccleshill, they remain in 16th ahead of their season finale, where they travel to face off with Pickering Town on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off..
