Boys swimming and diving roundup: Montevideo earns a win over Willmar

Thunder Hawks get 6 1sts, including 4 from Nolan Christopher, to top Cards

MONTEVIDEO — The Montevideo boys swimming and diving team squeaked past Willmar in a non-conference dual on Thursday night. Montevideo, led by Nolan Christopher, earned a 100-83 victory against the Cardinals. Christopher captured the 200- and 500-yard freestyles in times of 1 minute, 58.

21 seconds and 5:26.27. The junior was also a member of the Thunder Hawks’ 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay, which both finished first in 1:46.



11 and 3:45.25. Hayden Blom and Cody Westby also secured wins for Montevideo, which won six of 12 events.

Blom took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.71 and Westby won the 1-meter diving competition with 144.95 points.

David Lammers won a pair of individual races and helped one of Willmar’s relay teams to a first-place finish. The senior placed first in the 50 freestyle (23.08) and 100 butterfly (57.

62), and helped the Cardinals’ 200 freestyle relay to a victory in 1:35.05. Alex Marcus, Sam Sheets and Evan Wallestad also claimed wins for Willmar.

Marcus won the 100 freestyle in 55.85. Sheets was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:19.

13. Wallestad was the top finisher in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.46.

The Cardinals host Sauk Rapids for a Central Lakes Conference meet at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Montevideo competes in the West Fargo Invitational at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hulbert Aquatics Center in West Fargo, North Dakota.

Montevideo 100, Willmar 83 Delano/W-M 101 D-C/Litchfield 81, Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield saw all of its relay teams earn wins in its loss against Delano/Watertown-Mayer at Delano. Dominic Borg was strong in the loss for D-C/Litchfield. The junior placed first in the 50 freestyle in 22.

98 and was victorious in the 100 freestyle at 51.34. He also helped D-C/Litchfield’s 200 freestyle relay to a win in 1:38.
